UK Postal Services: Window Services

The University of Kentucky operates a U.S. Postal Service contract station at two locations on campus, 21 A Whitehall Classroom building and M63 Chandler Medical Center. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m... The following services are available:

Stamp Sales: Range from purchases of one stamp to a roll of one hundred. We also sell pre-stamped envelopes and post cards with the same pricing as the U.S. Postal Service. Pricing is available on-line at USPS.com, or feel free to visit us at our window locations at 21 A Whitehall Classroom building or M63 in the Chandler Medical Center.

First-Class Mail: First class mail is typically used for personal correspondence through post cards, letters (flats) and small packages. Bills or statements of account may be mailed first class in order to ensure timely deliver and at reasonable rate.

First-Class Mail prices are based on both shape and weight of the item being mailed. For items weighing more than 13 ounces, priority mail is used.

Express Mail: For time-sensitive letters, documents and packages customers should consider using Express Mail. Guaranteed next-day and second-day delivery nationwide or your money back is the policy.

Priority Mail: Standard delivery on priority mail is two to three days. Typical items mailed priority range from flat rate envelopes to flat rate boxes. Both envelopes and boxes are available free of charge. The only cost is postage.

There is a 70 lb. maximum weight allowed when using priority mail

Delivery is available to most addresses in the United States including military bases and post office boxes.

Priority Mail is not guaranteed. The average time is 2 to 3 days.

Money Orders: Are a safe and effective alternative to sending cash through the mail. Money Orders are available at the window and in denominations up to $1,000 each. Money orders MUST be purchased with cash, debit card or traveler's checks only. Checks and credit cards are not accepted. Money orders can be cashed at any post office and or deposited at any financial institution.

Customers sometimes consider money orders because if they are damaged, lost or stolen you can have them replaced.

Registered Mail: When you're sending valuable or irreplaceable items through the mail, protect them with Registered Mail.

Items sent through registered mail are monitored from the point of mailing to the point delivery, and insured up to $25,000 against loss or damage. You can verify the date and time of delivery and the delivery attempts made online. All destination countries have an indemnity limit of $43.73 and a registry fee of $12.20. Certified Mail: For items needing to be tracked electronically you may consider using certified mail. Customers can track articles to their destination on-line. When you used Certified Mail you receive a receipt with the date on mailing and a unique article number that allows you to track an item. Signatures are required at delivery and a record is maintained at the Post Office for an adding security feature.

Insured Mail: Customers want insurance when mailing expensive or valuable items such as jewelry, antiques or clothing. Packages should only be insured for the value of its contents.

Delivery Confirmation: This is the most cost effective method for delivery confirmation. Delivery confirmation may be used for the following services:

First-Class packages
Priority Mail
Package service parcels

Delivery confirmation is not available on standard letters.

Restricted Delivery: Restricted delivery service is used when you want your mail to be signed for by a specific individual. Mail for minors or persons under guardianship may be delivered to their parents or guardian.

Certificate of Mailing: Is a customer's purchase of proof of mailing. It provides you evidence of the date when your mail was presented to the postal service for mailing. It can only be purchased at the time of mailing.

Methods of Payment: Payment can be made by cash, check or credit card. A driver's license, UKID, or a Personal I.D. is required with a check.
