This calendar provides information on earth science groups that hold meetings and field trips for members and the general public. Sometimes, there will also be postings of upcoming earth science activities which may be of interest to educators and students. To find more information about specific organization activities please contact the organization directly. Most have an annual membership fee, but the fee is generally minimal. Rockhounds of Central Kentucky (Rock, mineral, and gem club)

The Rockhounds of Central Kentucky (Rock, mineral, and gem club) has monthly meetings, generally the on the third Thursday of each month, in Lexington , Kentucky , at Meadowthorpe Community Center , 333 Larch Lane . Field trips are generally scheduled the Saturday before a meeting. The Society sponsors an annual rock, mineral, and gem show each fall.

KYANA Geological Society

The KYANA Geological Society has monthly meetings, generally on the third Tuesday of each month, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the Louisville Nature Center (3745 Illinois Ave.), across from the Louisville Zoo. The Society sponsors an annual rock, mineral, gem, and fossil show each fall.

Cincinnati Mineral Society

The Cincinnati Mineral Society has monthly meetings, generally on the second Friday of each month, in Cincinnati , Ohio , at the Sharon Centre Auditorium, Sharon Woods Park . The Society sponsors numerous field trips during the year to collect minerals and visit museums. The Society sponsors an annual rock, mineral, gem, and fossil show each spring, which is one of the largest in the Midwest.

Kentucky Paleontological Society

The Kentucky Paleontological Society has monthly meetings, generally on the last Friday of each month at the Mines and Minerals Resource Building , University of Kentucky , in Lexington , Kentucky . The Society also sponsors monthly field trips.

Cincinnati Dry Dredgers

The Cincinnati Dry Dredgers has monthly meetings, generally on the fourth Friday of selected months, in Cincinnati, Ohio, at 201 Braunstein Hall, University of Cincinnati. The association sponsors field trips and cosponsors the annual Geofair in Cincinnati; a rock, mineral, gem, and fossil show each spring.

National Speleological Society

There are many caving associations in Kentucky. These “grottos” actively map, research, and promote the preservation of caves in the state. They host meetings, caving trips, and spelunking workshops throughout the year. The National Speleological Society has a list of member organizations in the state.
